The devastating earthquake in western part of Nepal on 3 November 2023 resulted in severe losses and damages of people and infrastructures. In response, Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) implementing the Earthquake Response Operation (ERO).
Immediately after the earthquake, NRCS deployed Emergency Response Team (ERT) to Jajarkot and Rukum West to conduct the Initial Rapid Assessment (IRA). Altogether, 13 IRA reports were compiled and disseminated. 3-member IRA team includes NRCS, security forces and local government representative.
Similarly, the second round deployed ERT members are in the field from 19 November 2023 with the major role for overall coordination with the concerned local authorities for conducting the detail assessment. Prior to the assessment, coordination with CDO and concerned local government authorities to ensure the approval of the detail assessment questionnaire were done. After the approval, the team conducted the orientation to the selected volunteer on the use of KOBO tools for detail assessment.
A total of 193 volunteers (130 from Jajarkot and 63 from Rukum West) were orientated and are mobilized to conduct the detail assessment at Jajarkot (Bheri, Chedagad and Nalgad Municipality and Junichhande, Shivalaya, Kuse and Barekot Rural Municipality) and at Triveni and Sanobheri Rural Municipality of Rukum West. So far, 1,588 HHs from Jajarkot and 282 HHs data from Rukum West has been collected.
