Minister Sita Badi Visits Nepal Red Cross Society Central Office

Minister for Women, Children, Gender and S![]exual Minorities and Social Security, Sita Badi, visited the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) Central Office and received an update on NRCS’s response to the recent floods in Rasuwa.

Minister Badi appreciated the immediate mobilization of NRCS staff and volunteers and expressed the Government of Nepal’s commitment to further collaboration with NRCS to additional support to flood-affected communities.

Krishna Bahadur Raut, Secretary at the Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities, and Social Security, said that the Government of Nepal has been prioritizing women and children, older persons, and social protection. He urged the Nepal Red Cross Society to give greater priority to these areas, as well as services such as psychosocial counselling and family restoration.

NRCS Chairperson Dr. Bishal Kumar Bhandari briefed the delegation on ongoing relief and response activities, with priority given to women, children, older people, and persons with disabilities. NRCS Secretary General Rishi Raman Khanal highlighted that NRCS has been providing humanitarian services as a axulart to the government and working closely coordination with the Government, IFRC, ICRC, Partner National Societies, and other stakeholders.

David Fisher, Head of Delegation of IFRC in Nepal, appreciated the Government’s relief efforts and NRCS’s humanitarian response. He highlighted IFRC’s continued support to NRCS and efforts to mobilize additional international assistance for the flood response.

To date, Nepal Red Cross Society has provided 2,000 tarpaulins, 1,000 blankets, 1,000 mattresses, 600 ropes, 5,000 dignity and hygiene kits, 1,790 body management bags, 55 first-aid kits, 50 stretchers, 15 tents, and 50 emergency toilets in the flood-affected areas. In addition, more than 5,000 NRCS volunteers have been mobilized to support search and rescue operations, body management, temporary shelter arrangements, food distribution, and other humanitarian response activities.
