Kathmandu, 25 September 2026.
A meeting was held at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) under the chairmanship of Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) Chairperson Dr. Bishal Kumar Bhandari, focusing on monitoring the heavy rainfall occurring across the country and the potential disaster situations that may cause, while emphasizing the need to provide swift, coordinated and needs-based humanitarian assistance to affected communities.

The meeting decided that NRCS staff and volunteers at all levels should be kept continuously updated on the rainfall situation, and that timely information should be disseminated to Red Cross structures and communities at the district, provincial and municipal levels. Provincial, district and municipal branches have been urged to monitor local risks of rainfall-induced floods and landslides and to provide communities with preparedness and safety-related information.

Chairperson Dr. Bhandari expressed commitment to delivering need-based assistance to disaster-affected communities, emphasizing that no affected person should be left without support. He also called for regularly updating records of relief and emergency supplies held at NRCS central and regional warehouses, monitoring their availability, condition and location, and pre-positioning supplies in at-risk areas so they can be swiftly mobilized when needed.

NRCS stated that it will ensure humanitarian services including food and other essential relief items, rescue and safe evacuation during floods and other disasters, emergency shelter and dignified temporary housing, and that it will maintain continuous coordination with the Government of Nepal, local governments, IFRC, and other humanitarian organizations.

The meeting was attended by the Chairperson, Secretary General, Treasurer and members of the NRCS Central Committee, along with staff, as well as representatives and staff of the IFRC and PNS (Partner National Societies).
